Handcrafted Solid Ash Dining Table – Breadboard Ends & Drawbored Joinery

A son commissioned this table for his father, who was in end-of-life hospice care. He couldn’t get up to run his hands over the wood — but he studied it from where he rested, taking in every line, and you could see it in his face. He loved it. That’s when we knew we’d gotten it right.

Because a table like this was never really about the wood. It’s about the family that gathers around it. Someday this table will be where birthdays are celebrated, where homework gets finished and grandchildren roll out cookie dough, where holiday traditions get passed down one generation to the next, long after any of us are here to see it. That’s the difference between buying furniture and commissioning an heirloom.

Here’s what actually goes into building one:

The top is solid Ash, 72″ x 36″, glued up and built out to a full 2″ edge with a hand-routed roundover, then capped with breadboard ends that are drawbored: two pins glued at center, one floating in a slotted hole at each end, so the top stays dead flat while still moving naturally with the seasons.

The base is four tapered legs — 4″ square at the top, tapering down to 2″ at the floor — with rails dovetailed directly into the legs and stretchers locked in place with through-tenons. There are no structural screws anywhere in the frame; the joinery alone carries the load. The tabletop floats on figure-8 clips set every 10″, letting the whole piece expand and contract as one solid unit through the seasons.

Every table is finished by hand: six coats of stain hand-matched to complement your existing furniture, two coats of triple-thick sealant, and a two-coat base plus two-coat top application of N3 Nano finish for lasting protection and a beautiful sheen.

Built to outlast all of us — that’s the point.

All orders are hand-made one off, starting price for a dining table this size is $2,500. Wood species and size are the largest factors in price.
